Good to know
Copper, heat, vapor, and the cuts you choose: every run on a 4 gallon mushroom top still is an experiment you design and control. We hand-build this one from 100% copper at least 1.0 mm thick, top it with a wide mushroom-style cap, and seal each joint with lead-free tin-silver solder. You won't find lead or brass anywhere in its joints.
Who is a 4 gallon copper still with a mushroom top for?
It suits the hobbyist who has outgrown a tiny pot but isn't ready for a big rig. Four gallons gives you a meaningful run and is still easy to fill and clean. It's also big enough to show you how a longer run behaves, which takes some guesswork out of moving up later.
- The full set: pot, mushroom-top cap, swan neck, and condenser with a thermometer port.
- Read the vapor: put a thermometer in that port and log temperatures on every run. Over time your notes become your recipe book.
- Many uses: water distillation, essential oils from garden herbs, and, only with federal TTB permits, whiskey, rum, vodka, brandy and moonshine.
- Keep it bright: rinse right after use, dry thoroughly, and clean off tarnish with a mild acid when you want that new-penny glow.
Owning a still is legal in the US, and making spirits requires federal permits. Want to know if this size fits your plans, or what heat source to pair with it? Ask us a question and we'll help you sort it out.
