A 1.5 gallon copper pot still is where a lot of distillers first learn to think like alchemists: a little copper, a little heat, and a stream of vapor you get to read and steer. Ours is handcrafted from 100% copper, at least 1.0 mm thick, with a classic onion-shaped head that sits on the pot like something from an old apothecary shelf. Every joint is sealed with lead-free tin-silver solder. There's no lead, and there are no brass fittings spoiling the look.
Is a 1.5 gallon onion head still a good first still?
For a lot of people, yes. A small pot means small runs, so you can repeat an experiment, change one variable, and see what happens without a lot of wash at stake. This is the size where you learn your cuts by thermometer and by nose, then write down what worked.
